Book Review: Hotel Nantucket

You can’t live in New England without knowing who Elin Hilderbrand is. A very well known author of several novels most of which takes place in Nantucket, MA. I only read my first Elin Hilderbrand novel, ’28 Summers’ in 2020, then the ‘Winter Street’ series last Christmas. I don’t know why I waited this long! I’m definitely a fan, so of course it went without a question that I’d want to read this book!

Synopsis:

After a tragic fire in 1922 that killed 19-year-old chambermaid, Grace Hadley, The Hotel Nantucket descended from a gilded age gem to a mediocre budget-friendly lodge to inevitably an abandoned eyesore — until it's purchased and renovated top to bottom by London billionaire, Xavier Darling.  Xavier hires Nantucket sweetheart Lizbet Keaton as his general manager, and Lizbet, in turn, pulls together a charismatic, if inexperienced, staff who share the vision of turning the fate of the hotel around. They face challenges in getting along with one another (and with the guests), in overcoming the hotel's bad reputation, and in surviving the (mostly) harmless shenanigans of Grace Hadley herself — who won't stop haunting the hotel until her murder is acknowledged.

Filled with the emotional tension and multiple points of view that characterize Elin's books (The Blue Bistro, Golden Girl) as well as an added touch of historical reality, Hotel Nantucket offers something for everyone in this summer drama for the ages.

Review:

I was hooked to every page! I binge read this book, wanting to know everything. I was intrigued with the storyline and the hotel staff were so likable. There were twists and turns that I didn’t expect. The ghost was a fun additional in this book. I loved the whole backdrop of Hotel Nantucket so much that it made me want to visit! In the last chapter, Elin does shares which hotel inspired Hotel Nantucket so it’s on the list to actually visit someday! Also in the last chapter, it is a guide of Nantucket with the author’s personal recommendations. I’ve never been there so this book will definitely come with me whenever I visit Nantucket!

Hotel Nantucket will be released on June 14th.
