Author Spotlight: Deborah Goodrich Royce
I thought I’d share more about my favorite authors. Deborah Goodrich Royce published Finding Mrs. Ford (2019), Ruby Falls (2021) and upcoming Reef Road. Her books are in the suspenseful thriller genre. Royce contributes a lot to the community in Watch Hill/Westerly, Rhode Island. Her husband and her restored many buildings which includes the infamous Ocean House, Weekapaug Inn, United Theater and one of my most favorite bookstore - Savoy!
I usually discover authors from recommendations, reading their books, etc. How I came across Royce was unique! When I’m not reading books, I am out photographing New England content. One of my favorite location is Watch Hill, Rhode Island. I photograph the same homes over and over, one day I discovered that Royce owned one of them.
This was when I found out that the house was also in the book Finding Mrs. Ford. The story of a wealthy widow who had a past that came back to haunt her. The FBI showed up at her house. The story alternates with her past, which took place in Detroit during the 1970’s when a tragic accident had occurred. All the secrets made this book a page turner!
Ruby Falls is a more gripping and haunting story of a 6 years old girl whose father abandoned her. She decided to bury that childhood past and turned into a soap opera star. She had a whirlwind marriage after dating for 6 months. They moved to Los Angeles where she gets a starring role. The entire story was narrated by Ruby herself. I was immersed in this story! Royce did an amazing job writing descriptively.
Coming out tomorrow (January 10), Reef Road is another psychological thriller story inspired by a true crime story. It is very well written like her previous novels, full of twists and turns. It alternates between two characters, one is “the wife” and the other is “the writer”. Their stories merge halfway through the book which made the storyline very thought provoking!
I enjoyed all of Deborah Goodrich Royce’s novels. She is a original storyteller with a great talent of descriptive writing. Once you pick up any of her books, you will be intrigued! I look forward to more novels from her in the future.
