November reads

November was a slow reading month for me, I hit a bit of a slump for a while. I still enjoyed the reads I had this month:

FAVORITE

One of my favorite bookstagrammers (@beyondthebookends) recommended this YA book. What a GREAT recommendation — I was GLUED from page 1 to the very end. Yoyo Gold is a rabbi’s daughter who takes on a lot of responsibilities as part of their Orthodox Jewish lifestyle. She started to be curious about things outside of the rules and explores them. It was a book about self-reflection, self-journey and growth. It was particularly nice how the book included another character who was Reform Jewish — showing that there are different ways to be Jewish. I was very immersed into this story and was disappointed when it ended, wanting to know more about Yoyo’s journey. One of my favorite books I read this year. Very highly recommended!

LIKED

I always enjoy books by Sophie Cousens so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to read an early reader copy of IS SHE REALLY GOING OUT WITH HIM? It was such an adorable quirky and lighthearted read. I binge read in two days! I laughed at some details like how the kids picked out the dates for Anna. I enjoyed the characters in this book.

DNF

It pains me to say that this wasn’t a compelling read for me. I heard a lot about this book prior to its release. I usually enjoy family saga/drama reads but this one wasn't for me.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

As a long time fan of Carlene O’Connor, I devour anything she writes. This newly released YOU HAVE GONE TOO FAR is an intense read! Nothing like her cozy Irish Village series. This is the third book in her County Kerry series so it does feature the vet, Dimpna Wilde and Detective Cormac O’Brien. In this read, we’re taken along Cormac’s investigation into cults and murder of a pregnant woman. It wasn’t easy to read some parts but it is very engrossing read. As a deaf reader, I also loved how it included a deaf character! That was exciting and the author did well on discussing the communication methods with deaf people. She threw in tidbits to educate like how sign language isn’t universal so I really appreciated that! This book is very well written with twists you won’t predict — highly recommended! I can’t wait to read more from Carlene O’Connor.
