September Reads
September had some good reads. I thought I read less than what I did because I had such a BUSY month! The month kicked off with a hefty book (almost 500 pages) but it was a great book for a late summer read. I can’t believe it’s fall now! Hoping to read more fall cozy/witchy reads for October if I’m not too busy chasing the foliage!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
This book got all the hype this summer enough to have miles-long wait list at the library. I finally got my hands on a copy of e-book. It opens with a 13 years old camper missing from a summer camp in ADK region of NY. This was a multilayered read so it was a lot to absorb but not too overwhelming. It did had a slow start, but once it picked up the pace, I was glued to this book. The writing was very beautifully done. The most engrossing read this month! I would love to see this book made into a movie.
LIKED
I had to read this book before watching the Netflix series. Always a bonus when it takes place in New England. We are transported to Nantucket for an upcoming wedding only to have a member of the wedding party turn up dead on the day of. Everyone is a suspect. This is a fun mystery/beach read of who-did-it. The messy drama is bingeable. I found the Netflix series to be very different, it was hard to enjoy it as I was confused thinking about the book details. The book is always better!
LIKED
I heard a lot about this debut on bookstagram. It was a fun chick lit read about Rachel Weiss, who just turned 30. She is stuck in a job she’s not happy with and dating a lot of wrong men. Rachel is fortunate to have a group of girlfriends who supports her. This was a story of Rachel’s self growth journey — she might be unlikeable but you find yourself rooting for her in the end.
DNF
I badly wish I could like this book more. The main character is a deaf-hard of hearing person who lost their hearing at age 16. It is based loosely on the author’s experience of losing hearing at 14. It might not be for me, but would recommend this to the right audience.
NO RATING
As a HUGE fan of Gilmore Girls, I had to read this memoir by Kelly Bishop. To be honest, I thought I’d be skimming over the beginning of the book when she talked about her dancing career but I was so intrigued. I read every word and Kelly’s life is so interesting! I was surprised because I only knew her as Emily Gilmore so to know what she went through in her life made me admire her more. Definitely worth a read!
